Become a Trustee

Use Your Experience to Help Shape Parkside’s Future

Becoming a trustee is an opportunity to use your skills, knowledge and experience to support Parkside and help guide the future of the charity.

Why Become a Trustee?

Make a Meaningful Contribution

Being a trustee requires commitment, but it can also be a highly rewarding way to support Parkside.

Trustees bring their individual experience and perspectives to the Board, helping inform decisions, strengthen the charity and support the continued development of Parkside’s services. Parkside currently allows for up to 12 trustees.

Your input can help make a real difference to the people, families and communities Parkside supports.

What Does a Trustee Do?

Helping Guide and Support the Charity

Trustees are responsible for the overall governance and direction of Parkside. Working together as a Board, trustees help ensure that the charity:

Stays True to Its Purpose

Support Parkside in continuing to deliver its charitable aims and remain focused on the needs of the people it supports.

Is Well Run

Help oversee the charity’s governance, finances, resources and long term sustainability.

Meets Its Responsibilities

Ensure Parkside complies with relevant charity law, regulatory requirements and its governing documents.

Protects Parkside

Help safeguard the charity’s finances, assets and reputation while ensuring resources are used responsibly.

Trustee Terms

A Commitment to Parkside

Under Parkside’s Constitution, trustees serve for a term of three years and may serve for up to three terms.

Trustees are either elected at Parkside’s Annual General Meeting or invited to join the Board by existing trustees when a vacancy becomes available during the year.

Being Part of the Board

Working Together for Parkside

Parkside’s trustees formally meet as a Board every two months, with additional meetings arranged when specific matters need to be discussed.

Some trustees may also become involved in smaller working groups or take on additional responsibilities within the Board. Two trustees currently sit on Parkside’s Management Group, which also meets every two months.

Parkside also appoints trustees to specific officer roles, including:

  • Chair
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Buildings Manager

These positions are undertaken voluntarily by trustees.

What Can You Bring to Parkside?

Trustees do not all need to come from the same professional background. Different skills, experiences and perspectives can strengthen the Board and help Parkside make informed decisions.

You may be able to contribute experience in areas such as:

  • Business and management
  • Finance
  • HR and people management
  • Marketing and communications
  • Property and facilities
  • Governance
  • Fundraising
  • Community engagement
  • Health, social care or learning disability services

Above all, trustees should share Parkside’s commitment to supporting adults with learning disabilities and creating opportunities for people to live fulfilling and included lives.
